"Empowering Rural Artisans: Bridging Tradition & Technology"
Designing a digital ecosystem to connect India’s rural artisans to sustainable markets.
In rural India, millions of artisans create products deeply rooted in tradition, pottery, Phulkari embroidery, Jutti making, and more. Yet, their livelihoods are hindered by irregular raw material supply, dependence on middlemen, limited digital literacy, and restricted market access.
This project aimed to understand these challenges through deep ethnographic research and co-creation with artisan communities. The outcome is Karigar - a service and digital platform that streamlines raw material sourcing, offers training, facilitates direct-to-buyer sales, and empowers artisans to take control of their craft and income.
By blending cultural preservation with modern tools, the solution envisions a future where rural creativity thrives without being constrained by geography, intermediaries, or outdated systems.
